About the Artist

Joseph DeVito studied at the Arts Students League in New York City and is an honors graduate from Parsons School of Design. He has worked professionally as an illustrator, painter and sculptor for thirty years.

Joseph first fell in love with the beauty and philosophical underpinnings of religious art as a young boy under the tutelage of his uncle, the Rev. Joseph Adamo, who was a talented oil painter. The Rev. Adamo introduced his namesake to the works of Leonardo, Michelangelo, and the Renaissance in general, all of which left an indelible impression.

This spark lit a fire that led to an extraordinarily diverse professional art career as a painter, sculptor, creator, designer, published author and  adjunct professor at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia and FIT in New York City. Initially focusing on art of the imagination and pop culture, DeVito’s art has won a multitude of honors and awards and is prized by collectors.

Along the way Joseph gradually and persistently began to pursue his life-long passion for the sacred arts. Recent commissions include a fourth forty eight inch tall reproduction of the ‘Mary, Mother of the Life Within’ statue; oil paintings of the Sacred and Immaculate Hearts, Sr. Lucia’s Last vision of Fatima and  the restoration of the famous Odessa Madonna, now in Kazan, Russia for the World Apostolate of Fatima, USA's National Blue Army Shrine of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

With the ability to work in both two and three dimensions, whether portraying the traditional or the spectacular, his focus is always on creating beautiful images that inspire contemplation.
